Crossland wishes to recruit a Purchasing and Materials Manager who will have responsibility for efficient materials procurement and stock management servicing our two production sites located in Swatragh Northern Ireland and Burnley England. This is a new position within our business and the successful candidate with be required to oversee and develop the current systems and teams in place.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the purchasing and stores functions within the Crossland production sites in Swatragh and Burnley – this will require travelling between both sites on a regular basis
  • Forecast levels of demand for raw materials and component parts from the production schedule and schedule purchase orders to meet requirements
  • Conduct market research from suppliers around the world to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
  • Negotiate and agree contracts, monitoring the quality of service provided as well as commercial issues
  • Develop strategies to make sure cost savings and supplier performance targets are met – or exceeded
  • Forecast price trends and their impact on future activities
  • Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
  • Undertake value for money reviews of existing contracts and arrangements
  • Evaluate bids and make recommendations, based on commercial and technical factors
  • Ensure suppliers are aware of business objectives
  • Liaise with our Sales, Design, and Production departments to understand product specifications and customer requirements
  • Further develop our stock system to ensure optimum stock levels are maintained and avoid stock out

The Ideal Person

  • Sound educational achievement together with professional qualification in Business/Supply Chain or related area
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Willing to travel regularly
  • Strong financial/ commercial acumen
  • Proficient with MS Office suite – advanced skills with MS Excel
  • Experience with Microsoft Navision would be advantageous
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills
  • Analytical with a methodical approach to problem solving
  • 3 years + experience of managing a team, a people person with strong management skills – able to coach and mentor staff to higher levels of achievement
  • An understanding of lean techniques and global sourcing
